Highlighting Differences in Cancer Epidemiology in India: A Descriptive Report from a Private Sector Hospital-Based Cancer Registry in Delhi for the Years 2013 to 2017

Abstract Introduction Cancer continues to grow in number. Knowing the epidemiology helps prevention and treatment. Existing hospital-based cancer registries (HBCRs) provide little data of private sector including patients for medical tourism. Objectives The aim this study was describe distribution at a tertiary center North India all patients. Materials Methods Cases were ascertained from Oncology Outpatient Department Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, between January 1, 2013, December 31, 2017, pathology database since July 2015. They abstracted into National Registry Program (NCRP) core pro forma. We conducted descriptive analysis by age, gender, nationality, site, stage, Results Among 15,850 confirmed cases, 8,034 (51%) males. Nearly 1.8% pediatric (<15 years) 30.1% geriatric (>65 years). A high proportion (13%) came outside 27% Delhi-National Capital Region. most common cancers males prostate (10.9%), lung (10%), mouth (7.6%). Stomach site international male Four top ten gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum). females breast (37.4%), ovary (7.1%), corpus uteri (5.6%). Tobacco-related accounted 36.9% 11.3% females. composite stage IV 54%, followed III (21%), II (15%), I (10%). In females, 33%, 23%, 28%, 16%. As registry included outpatient record visits records, not registered received treatment Hospital. Overall, 49.8% 49.7% female Data quality metrics matched other national HBCRs. Conclusion highlight differences NCRP HBCRs, with being forming major among all. Socioeconomic status our patients, referral bias, tourism could be responsible.
